Okay, this is interesting. I got into a discussion on a forum I visit about AV and the changes coming.

AV is currently designed in a way that gives the Horde an advantage right off the bat. We all know this — I’ve always wondered why we always seem to be behind in resources all the time.

However, the alliance does seem to win a lot. It turns out that Alliance, even across other battlegroups, are using the same strat: take the relief hut immediately. Well, it turns out, talking to some horde people, it’s really fucking up the horde. I mean, they are completely caught off guard, so much so, some of them are starting to boycott AV. *shocked*

This got me surprised, I got to wondering why they are caught so off guard. The horde has an initial advantage, but yet they can’t cope with the Alliance taking Relief Hut.

So, I look at the AV map, I noticed we have two GYs within Stormpike. Okay, alliance has an advantage there. We are literally a skip away from aid station (our equiv of Relief Hut). When alliance dies, they always res at Stormpike GY because Horde always immediate takes Stoneherth. Then I realized, wait a min: the Horde have the advantage here if played right. I mean, the horde can effectively take out TWO GYs back to back, effectively locking out Alliance from Stormpike — but why aren’t they?

Then I realized, the Horde is always turtling up to the top. They take out the first alliance GY and …. oh …. effectively locks the alliance into Stomepike, IF they don’t get another GY outside of Stormpike soon. Very very interesting …. The horde are actually hurting themselves here. See, by not allowing Alliance outside of Stormpike, they are unable to get into Stormpike…. oh, how the tides are turning here.

Now, the Alliance knows getting a GY outside of Stormpike is key. If they can’t get past Stoneherth, they are effectively dead locked and Horde will eventually win due their initial advantage. Alliance initially kept trying for Stonewall GY (an initially uncontested graveyard), which is the very next gy right outside of the “block”, but have failed as Horde always seems to get that dropped pretty quickly. So now the Alliance decided to go for the farthest GY, effectively getting around the Horde’s attempt to lock Alliance into Stormpike. Now the Horde is baffled!

Does the Horde not see they are actually hurting themselves now? You have to hand it to Alliance with their ability to kill Drek w/out capping out any towers. That shows some serious strength on the Alliance’s part. Now, if we can learn to communicate!!

Why can’t the Horde figure out they are hurting themselves? Why can’t the horde figure out “if the Alliance is rushing to Relief Hut, why don’t we rush to Aid Station?” Nor do they realize: “Hey, look — Aid Station and Stormpike GY are right next to each other. We can take them BOTH out AT ONCE and effectively locking OUT the Alliance from Stormpike!”

Are the Horde the “unintelligent” ones? This is an interesting thought. We effectively now have a BG that is actually about strategy (although, admittedly some strat negated by zerg), but neither side actually realizes this. I say neither side because eventually the Horde will realize they can lock out the Alliance from Stormpike and the Alliance will start QQ’ing about the proximity of the graveyards. But until then, Alliance — eat up your honor while you can!

As you may have noticed from my twittering (or lack there of), it’s been quite a slow day today. Nothing special as far as news that I’ve seen. Nothing too crazy in the WoW department either. Work was quite slow, too. Just one of those days I guess.

During my slow day at work, however, I did run across a couple cool video series if you’re into WoW Machinima. The first one is Azerothian Super Villains. ASV, as I’l call it, takes a rather humours approach to the current super villains of WoW and their attempt to take over the world! They have a nice mix of “Pinky and the Brain” type of humor as well as little touch of a little insanity. It centers around Illidan, Archimonde and Kael’thas. It’s a good watch.

The other one is Chronicle of Annoying Quest, which has a bit of an EverQuest ring to it. I actually hadn’t seen this yet. I saw the first 15-20 seconds of their 20th video and decided I had to watch them in order! Sadly, dumb ass WoW Movies makes it extremely hard to tell what the order is: the title of the video, which contains the episode number, gets cut off in their minimal space.

I know it’s been a bit since I’ve updated. And I know I say that a lot. I hate that. But I’m working on trying to change that.

Outside of Delusioned, I have been working on a new project of mine. It’s an MMO raid tracking + signup tool. It’s purpose will be to merge the two current main market ones that I know of: EQDKP and phpRaider.

The reason I’m going this is because I’m tired of the crappy interface of phpRaider; we, as in my guild, needs something that can keep track of raids on top of phpRaider; and we have to have a single sign-on. I, personally, got tired of having to log into three different sites, to do three different tasks. My new app is designed to allow a simple plug-in-play interface for user authentication and authorization. At this time, it’s fully functional with phpBB3’s authentication and authorization methods.

However, with all that said, there really isn’t much up, yet. Just a bunch of code on the project page and a quick site, with a forum, for posting updating and gaining feedback.

It’s going to be good, I promise. I already have a couple pages functionally complete and I like where it’s going. Very user friendly, quick updates, use of AJAX and old fashion POST requests for edits and fully modular user auth. I’m poring everything I can think of to make the user experience as friendly as possible.

Stop by, say hi. If you have any remote interest in the project, let me know! I love hearing from people. If you’re a coder and like critiquing code, feel free to browse the code base. I can’t guarentee it’s functionality. I just kind of check things in as I go, but it’s all there.

Last night, I played WoW, like I normally do. I decided to run a heroic instance to get a couple things I wanted for my druid. I got into a group that seemed to form quickly; things were looking good. We had a mage, rogue, hunter, warrior and druid (myself). A good mix of classes, no? On top of that, the mage, rogue and hunter knew each other and played together not to recently. Good omen! Or so I thought…We all got zoned in and everything seemed okay. Note the key word there is ’seemed.’ As it turned out our rogue wasn’t the smartest of the bunch. He stood, in stealth, very close to the patrol guard which happens to see through stealth. And as you’ve guessed, unmarked, 3 guards agroed onto the rogue then the group. The group tried to pick them up, but apparently people weren’t smart enough to CC immediately and the tank died rather fast. Then the rest of the group fell, but the mage managed to make it out. We were just standing by the zone line. No biggy. So, we all return back to the zone, but our mage remained outside…”hello? You there?”…no answer from our mage. uhm. Not good. After 5 minutes, we are all setup and ready, but still no word from our mage. We decided to go ahead and take the first two, which turned out to be three. Our rogue sapped one like normal. Tank took the other one. We killed him easily enough and proceeded to take the other. I noticed we were a bit close, but my attempts to tell the group to get back fell on deaf ears. The patrol guard agroed onto the group. After a couple swings on me, our tank managed to pick him up. However, our rogue was apparently did not use crippling poison–the other guy got low on health and fled … right into two other guards. As you’ve guessed, he returned with buddies: wipe number 2.We all get back to the zone, buffed up, and still no word from the mage. Oh wait, there he is! He apologizes and said he had a salad that didn’t agree with him. I’m not entirely convinced by that story. I was already annoyed with his unannounced afk’ing . I figured since he was back, we might as well continue forth.I suggested to our rogue to use crippling poison to slow these guys in their attempts to flee. He gets all pissed off, accusing me of being a bitch and moaning all the time, he left group. Great…rogue down. But no worries, we find another one quickly, or so we though. Not only did it take longer than it should have to get him to zone, he was already saved from an earlier run! Ugh! So, he drops. We stand there for a bit and the warrior asks his rogue friend to come. We get him and he can zone in. We’re ready! Or not … the mage is afk again?! A couple minutes passed and he’s back, once again apologizing. We venture forth. Unfortunately, our hunter seems to be unaware of casting npcs and line-of-sight. He stat his trap out in the open, and just stood there taking shadow bolt hits from a caster trying to “pull” them onto his trap. Okay, no real big deal, he was obviously new to high end content. I didn’t want to come across as arrogant, I kept my mouth shut. He wasn’t too hard to heal through the shadow bolts. No matter, we continue forth. A wipe here and there and began to wonder “why was our warrior getting hit more than our guild druids?” This warrior has 12k hit points. He should be good to go. Something just didn’t seem right, but I was too busy to check it out in detail. His WoWArmory page showed him at 10k, which made looking up his armor there pointless, since he is obviously wearing different pieces. So we get the first boss down, much easier than the trash spawns oddly enough. We get up the stairs, just fine and then have a few hick-ups. First off, this warrior is absolutely horrible at keeping multiple targets onto him. We get the group of casters down; he pulls a 5 group, without first warning the group of the large amount. I thought he pulled the patrol, too! I wasn’t prepared with the large heals; he dies, we wipe.We get back to our spot, and get all ready … oh wait, our mage afk’d again. Ugh! By this point I get pissed off at him. When he returned, I sent him a whisper informing him if he must log off, please do. It is unfair to the group he needs to afk all the time. He apologized and insured me it wouldn’t happen again. So, we take out a group of more, wipe once due to tank being bad at holding multiple spawns (he seemed to rely on intervene to take them off me). When I dropped, the group dropped. We finally get to the second boss, and things went smooth. He was dropped, extremely fast. We get to the third and final boss (the one I need I might add) and things didn’t go as smooth. I informed the group to keep moving. I can heal while I run, so don’t stand still. Not only did they not move, our grand hunter remained back where we were, forcing me to run up to him to toss him a heal. Our mage “lagged” and didn’t get out of one of the fireballs and died. I resurrected him, only to have our rogue die immediately after that, again, due to a fireball. Our group eventually wiped. We tried to come back and our mage, once again, afk’d on us…mage kicked. Now to look for a replacement. We find a mage, but said he needed a few minutes. All right, no biggy. During this time, I decided to inspect our warrior to figure out WHY he was taking more damage than I would have expected…well, as it turns out, our grand warrior is not so grand after all. Every piece of purple armor of his is PvP gear. PvP gear isn’t designed to work well in a PvE environment. It’s low on armor class, and low on most other stats other than stamina and resilience. Well, that explains his high HP, but still constantly getting pummeled. A couple minutes passed, with no word, he logged off.Needless to say, our warrior decided to call it a night, with the rogue behind him. A 2.5 hour instance and I did not get what I was after. Talk about a complete waste of time. Not to mention over 30g in repair bills due to all my deaths. After the group broke up the mage whispers me and “explains” his situation. So, it turns out our mage and his wife are RNs. Good for them. But now things go south — a friend of theirs was diagnosed with a terminal cancer and he was calling them constantly (from?) for counsel. It would seem him and his wife were taking turns talking to him. Good for them. Now I ask, why the fuck where you playing WoW?! Okay, I wasn’t that harsh, but I did tell him he shouldn’t have been on in the first place! Then I find out “This was my first heroics and I was just too excited to log off. I thought I could hold it,” ugh!The night ended there. I shot over a few elixir mats to my rogue, logged him on and made some more elixirs for my druid. Then I logged off.Word to the wise: if your friend is diagnosed with a terminal illness, do not log the fuck on WoW.And to you warriors: PvP armor is for PvP. It does not make you an uber tank in PvE.For you hunters: Line-of-Sight. If you can’t see the mobs to cast on, guess what? They can’t see you either! Use corners for your traps. I much rather you trap a caster than a melee that can 2 shot you.Rogues: Crippling poison is your friend against fleeing NPCs. Learn to use it. All rogues should keep at least 1 stack of each poison on them at all times. Now that’s the end of my rant. /sigh, worst night ever. I got very frustrated with them.

For a bit of history, a month or two ago, a kid located someplace in Australia (thanks commenter) goes by the name of Ghosti on the Garithos WoW server became desperate for the new flying epic mounts. Only one problem, the training for the mount costs 5k gold; not an easy feat for many players. Determined to get one, he had a plan…

He made a packet on the Garithos server forums: “Help me raise 4k gold and I’ll tattoo your site and slogan onto my ass.” Challenged by the dare, the server players did it.

Now you can see the fruits of their generosity:

I don’t know about you, but I think he got it tattooed on the wrong side, but hey, it’s the 2000s. It might very well be on the correct side (imagination left for the readers)…
